Its January - but it aint no thaw!

January was another busy month here at Duke Photography...

Jared Lazarus starts the month off with a portrait of Elizabeth Lum Huston, FNP, who recently received her advanced nursing degree at Duke University School of Nursing, and now works as a nurse practitioner for the Martin County Health Department, and runs their satellite clinic in the small town of Oak City.

Here we see Megan Morr's take on the interior of the new Keohane dorm during an open house on January 5th.

And during that same week, Les Todd captures students participating in a refugee simulation that attempted to convey the danger and confusion that can accompany border crossings, at the "Refugees, Rights, Resettlement - Winter Forum 2012"

Les works with students in a School of Nursing anesthesiology class to create a portrait that shows off their I-pad tablet computers. The students will use the I-pads to access information and record data during the semester.

On January 13th, Jon Gardiner photographs General Martin E. Dempsey meeting with students and touring the French Family Science Center and CIEMAS.

Megan documents a student lead silent protest on January 15th. The protest was held in response to an unpublished study that said black Duke students are disproportionally more likely to switch from the natural sciences, engineering and economics to ones in the humanities and social sciences.

On January 16th, Megan photographs volunteers from Duke, NCCU and the Durham Rotary at the Freeman Center for Jewish Life packaging meals for the MLK Million Meals Event.

Later that afternoon, Megan photographs President Brodhead addressing students at a re-enactment of the 1968 student sit-in of the Allen Building in the aftermath of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

During that same week, Jared documents Tristram Bahnson, MD, Director, Duke Center for Atrial Fibrillation, performing a cryo-balloon ablation procedure in the Electrophysiology/Cath Lab at Duke University Hospital.

On January 20th, Jon Gardiner photographs the Duke Swimming team as they prepare to take on Virginia.

Jared documents the Law School Alumni Reception at North Carolina Museum of Art and a lecture by Professor Deborah DeMott, J.D.

Jon captures Duke’s Chelsea Gray as she celebrates Duke’s 80-72 win over Maryland.

On January 24th, Jared photograph’s Computer Science students meeting with recruiters during TechConnect Spring 2012 at Gross Chemistry Building:

Jon documents pallbearers escorting the casket to Duke Chapel for the Service of Death and Resurrection for Mary Duke Biddle Trent Semans on January 30th.
